About Noir

Artist Bio

Cleveland-based artist Noir_Aeternus was originally born during the blustery winter of 1984 in the now defunct Michael Reese hospital, completely silent. No crying, no noises - complete silence. As non-important as those details may sound, he believes that was actually a clairvoyant moment on how the rest of his Life would unfold. A man of few words, constantly immersed in deep thought, Noir discovered his Passion for the Arts, specifically Art and Music (Writing came later), very early in his development. With each passing day, he came that much closer into claiming his birthright.

Three decades into the making, he has taken his destiny by the horns and is beyond neck-deep in the creative marshlands he calls his life. Passion is a Lifestyle and it is his belief that it should be reflected in every act committed daily. As long as he’s living, there is art to be created, problems to be solved, and ideas to manifest into reality.

Artist’s Statement

Realism, is incredibly boring. That is not to show blatant disregard for the entirety of World Art History, as I do truly love Realism. However, at this point in my creative career, simply depicting the various facets of Realism are not enough to bring me personal satisfaction. I refuse to believe that the ability to interpret life as realistically and accurately as possible is the most elite form of creative art-making. Too often, I look around and witness varying degrees of the same worn-out subject matter beaten to nihilistic death by a #2 pencil.

I have become exasperated at performing the same actions, toiling through the same motions over and over and over again within a "Traditional, Realist" aesthetic. Outside of reality, the photograph is and continues to be the standard in which the accuracy of all interpretation is measured. In the latter 20th century, phenomenal artists such as Chuck Close, Charles Bell, and Ralph Goings took two-dimensional representations of their surroundings to unprecedented levels. Fast-forward to 2014, technological advances have brought about extremely detailed, high-tech computers and high definition televisions that would put the prior mentioned artists' works to shame - and technology is still only advancing at a mercurial rate. Even so at the end of the day with all of the tricks and devices we use, all of these reinterpretations are only substandard to "reality." The benchmark of ultimate realism was made upon each of our entrances into this life. As of yet, this cannot be surpassed. Realizing this, I came to the conclusion that endless, photo-realistic reinterpretations of life were a fruitless endeavor and artistic spirit-killer. So, to counteract this I began to look for elements that would keep my Spirit and work intriguing. These are those elements:

Infinity

Randomness

Improvisation

Chaos

Order

Ideas

The Sublime

The Subconscious

The Unconscious

Ethereality

Elapsed Time

Polarity

But most importantly, The Idea, carries the Highest Premium in the act of Creation.

These are the key foundation elements that are constantly altered, varied, added, removed, stripped down, built up, exaggerated, and philosophized upon in order to make the World I envision a Reality. It is my full intent to use art, music, writing, and any means necessary to merge, twist, and redefine the concrete and the abstract in ways that are, first and foremost, satisfactory to me, but also in ways that will foster further thought, emotion, discussion, and insight within and beyond the art world. It is with hope that my body of work will help contextualize our (humanity) experience collectively and individually, enlighten my own understanding of the human experience, and take all facets of my being to a higher physical, emotional, mental, perceptual and spiritual level.

So without further adieu,

Enter the World of Noir.
